Call for Applications: Asia Pacific Regional Capacity Building on Management for World Heritage Sites - From Theory to Practice

The World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region (WHITR-AP, China) has launched a call for applications for the capacity-building activity ‘Asia Pacific Regional Capacity Building on Management for World Heritage Sites - From Theory to Practice’, to be held in Macao SAR, China, from 6 to 15 December 2026.

World Heritage properties are facing multiple challenges, including rapid urbanization, development pressures, natural disasters and deficiencies in management systems. In response to these challenges, and in line with the Regional Framework Action Plan for Asia and the Pacific (2023-2030) and the World Heritage Capacity-Building Strategy 2025-2035, WHITR-AP Shanghai and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China are jointly organizing this capacity development activity on "Management for World Heritage: From Theory to Practice".

The different modules will introduce participants to essential knowledge and approaches for World Heritage conservation and management, including management tools and approaches such as Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) and Heritage Impact Assessments, while strengthening practical skills through participatory learning, peer exchange and hands-on exercises.
